FOIA evidence photos from Portland Police Bureau with marks on cotton board, framed, on wall
Armaments Portland
2019
Pigment inkjet prints, grease pencils,
wax pastels, on cotton fiber board, framed,
31.375 x 48.75 inches

The images introduced in this work were obtained by a FOIA request to the Portland Police Bureau, which
asked for copies of photographs relating to weapon seizures during a “Patriot Prayer” protest and
counter-protest in the city on August 4, 2018 which law enforcement was required to document as part
of their evidence collection procedures. The contents of those images, and their arrangement in this
work, are presented in the hopes of sensitizing the viewer to the subjective quality of evidence
production itself; the relation of this quality to documentary practices; and how the narrative produced
among these photographs by the Portland police affect their conception of protesters, and ours.
